In my last blog I wrote about how I ended up connecting with my dear friend Piers Faccini and how when you follow your muse, the world truly becomes small and accessible. Just to go back a few months to February, a dream to bring Piers out to South Africa became a reality. We played 5 shows in total; starting with 2 in Cape Town, followed by 2 in Durban and the final show in Johannesburg. I opened the shows, inviting Piers to end each set with a new song of mine - 'Shaded in Blue'. Piers played the second half with a good 70 minute set, leaving each South African audience completely entranced. I remember standing next to my good friend Guy Buttery, staring at each other gob-smacked how spiritual his performance was. He sang with such command and transported the listener to a completely new place. In all the shows I have attended in my life, I have never felt a power in the music as with Piers. There is just such an honesty and depth that can't be translated into words. It also goes back to the fact that he is such a real person, that the generosity he imparts and shares with his friends is with the same giving heart as to the stranger who has come to witness him for the first time.
I have just returned from France where I performed 2 shows with Piers; one in the Cevennes and one in Paris. It is so beautiful to see how adoring his fans are and how their lives have been changed through his music. It was a real privilege to open his shows and also join him on some of his newly written pieces as well as his classic 'Where Angels Fly'. I also got a fore-taste of his works in process and have to say they are beyond beautiful. I can't wait for his new album! My new album 'A Bird in the Hand' will be released internationally in September which features Piers on 2 of my songs and hopefully a whole bunch of gigs together in the near future.
Thank you for such a God given opportunity.
